System or Style
Is Wing Tsun a style or a system? If it's a system, then there shouldn't be any talk about chi sau "applications" because that would mean that there are techniques involved. A "system" has no fixed techniques to deal with scenarios. A system just deals with stuff as it comes with no fore-thought of what "techniques" will be utilized. WT beginners will initially learn "techniques" but as they get better they slowly get weaned away from the "technique" mentality. Chi Sau becomes more natural and reflexive rather than based on "applications". The only way to learn this type of reflexive chi sau is via Hong Kong instruction. Most European and even American WT unfortunately does not have that capability.
